Sesame Chicken
This one was banging.
Crispy chicken pieces coated in a thick, sweet, sticky sesame sauce.
Proper takeaway vibes but made at home.
I actually had half of it, and later added a splash of soy sauce and a squeeze of lemon juice which made it hit even harder.
Also worth saying… the calories look a bit punchy on paper, mainly because of the honey, cornflour and chicken thighs.
If you want to lighten it up a bit you can easily:
reduce the honey,
use a bit less cornflour,
or swap chicken thighs for chicken breast.
Same flavour, just slightly fewer calories if that matters to you.
Ingredients
500 g chicken thighs, chopped
2 eggs
60 g cornflour
Large pinch of salt
Sauce
60 ml ketchup
60 ml soy sauce
60 ml honey
12 g brown sugar
10 ml rice vinegar
3 garlic cloves, minced
5 ml sesame oil
1 tbsp cornflour (to thicken)
Pinch sesame seeds
Method
Cut the chicken thighs into bite sized pieces.
Add them to a bowl with the eggs, cornflour and salt.
Mix until the chicken is well coated.
Air fry or fry the chicken pieces until crispy and golden.
In another pan add the ketchup, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic and sesame oil.
Bring to a gentle simmer.
Mix the cornflour with a splash of water and stir it into the sauce to thicken.
Add the crispy chicken and toss everything together until coated in the sauce.
Finish with a pinch of sesame seeds.
