“Communication-efficient distributed secondary control for accurate reactive and harmonic power sharing in stand-alone AC microgrids under switching communication topologies”
In this work, we developed a fully distributed and communication-efficient secondary-control framework for stand-alone AC microgrids.
The framework is validated on UHC-enabled inverter-based resources, where grid-forming and grid-following functionalities are integrated within a single converter.
The proposed sharing strategy is based on a capacity-weighted consensus approach with decoupled fundamental and harmonic voltage-compensation channels. This enables proportional reactive and harmonic power sharing under mismatched feeder impedances and time-varying communication links, without requiring feeder-impedance identification or centralized coordination.
Another key aspect of the work is a dual-threshold event-triggered communication mechanism that reduces unnecessary data exchange while maintaining coordination performance. The framework is supported by Lyapunov-based stability analysis and real-time OPAL-RT validation on a four-inverter microgrid.
