The high-margin rocket model involves leveraging algorithmic traffic to obtain free customers. This model is all about exploiting loopholes and best-practices on certain algorithm-driven platforms, getting outsized attention and conversions without having to spend money on marketing. This model is exactly how I made $1M+ in my twenties with my content businesses. At the time, I exploited long-tail keyword blogging in the personal finance niche. I drove millions of visitors to my content sites, earning over a million dollars before I sold that business. You can check out the above story for some receipts and a deeper look. However, this high-margin rocket model is possible on other platforms too: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and even Substack itself. The key is exploiting algorithms to drive attention to your business. What that business sells and actually delivers is what I’m covering below. Since then, my main channel has earned $150,000+ in Adsense revenue and another $100,000+ through affiliate deals and brand sponsorships. But the momentum was largely driven by one algorithmic win. The video’s traffic didn’t last. I didn’t become YouTube famous. And 627,000 views is peanuts in comparison to most viral videos. STILL, this video changed my life and my financial future. The best part? You can now use a variety of AI money-making tools to create the same kind of content. YouTube is way easier than it’s ever been, and if you can create content that adds value to people’s lives, it’s only a matter of time before you win. You can use vibe-coding tools like Emergent or Lovable to build entire websites, apps, and SaaS tools from scratch with basic prompting. I’ve done this recently and have built two different monetized web-apps/platforms for my affiliate marketing businesses. Now, vibe-coding alone doesn’t ignite a business. You still need fuel to power traffic, otherwise you’re just building shiny toys. This is where platforms like X, Reddit, and YouTube are once again immensely powerful. There are many success stories of people vibe-coding products that solve pain points they find in the market. They share these stores on platforms like Reddit, YouTube, and X, and this is how they obtain their first customers. Then, they leverage this initial win into posting more content under the guise of ‘building in public’, which is really just a cheat-code to going viral on social media. Just take a look at coders like Connor Burd. He’s vibe-coded his way to over $1M in revenue across several apps. He’s now been featured on channels like Starter Story and gone viral on X plenty of times, once again under the ‘building in public’ angle. • • This is where the algorithmic win comes in…You vibe-code a monetized asset, and then you leverage X and Reddit to get your customers. 👆 This single X post got over 63,000 views by the way. Connor has many more at 1M+ in reach. Think about how many customers this drives to his SaaS products and apps! 🤖 Start vibe-coding with Emergent today! 3. Print On Demand BusinessesLet me start out by saying that print on demand is difficult. Many niches are saturated, and it’s a grind getting your first sales. That said, nothing worth doing comes easy, right?! The idea here is to create print on demand designs for trending niches and then list your products for sale on marketplaces like Etsy. I’ve done this in the past, and I enjoy using Etsy because once again, you get free organic traffic from its marketplace as long as you create enough quality listings and do some basic Etsy-SEO. Thanks to AI, it’s also super easy to find profitable Etsy niches/sellers and then copy their most successful designs to sell on your own store. Here’s an example: take a look at this Etsy shop which sells vintage Marlboro posters: • • This seller has been operating for 9 months and has 3,100+ sales. This means they’ve earned over $35,000 in revenue if I had to guess, and I’d bet every penny I have that these are AI designs. This is also one shop and nine months. Picture getting a few of these shops up and running… Oh yeah, you can. And this is one side hustle I’m going to expand into when I have more time. Subscribe now The workflow is incredibly simple. You use AI tools like Skywork to create these exact same designs, upload them to print on demand providers like Printify or Gelato, list your products on Etsy, and you’re off to the races. For example, here’s my own Marlboro Man Poster I made using Skywork’s AI Poster creation feature 👇 • • This took 30 seconds, and this design is ready for sale on Etsy. Is this ethical? Are we flooding Etsy with AI-generated slop? Well, 3,100 sales in nine months would say otherwise. People want to purchase this stuff. And I don’t see anything wrong with spying on successful Etsy sellers and leveraging AI to make similar designs. It’s a free market out there, after all. If you try out this idea, my suggestion is to stack Skywork with Gelato. Again, I’m going to launch a series of shops this year for a test. I’ll update you here on Substack how this experiment goes. But I want to highlight a different newsletter model that’s a better fit for this high-margin rocket framework. The idea: Building hyper-local newsletters for small towns. Build an audience with organic social media marketing (and some Facebook Ads) until you reach enough mass to sell sponsorships/advertorial slots to local businesses. This is the playbook Ryan Sneddon used to build NapTown Scoop, a successful newsletter covering local news in Annapolis, Maryland. NapTown Scoop does over $320,000 per year. It’s a solo-business that’s run with basic freelance help. What’s amazing is that Annapolis has a population of about 40,000 people…NapTown Scoop reportedly has 20,000+ subscribers… Once Ryan hit a few thousand subscribers, word of mouth became the ‘hack’ that got him so many free subscribers. After all, if you live in Annapolis and you’re not following NapTown Scoop, what are you even doing? In a couple of years, Ryan turned this newsletter into the go-to source for news and events in this small town. TikTok Shopping Affiliate MarketingTikTok is being flooded with AI-generated UGC content right now that promotes TikTok Shopping affiliate offers. This is the high-margin rocket model at its core. Shit-posting on TikTok is an excellent way to get accounts banned. This isn’t the kind of business that scales into a massive affiliate agency for 99% of people either. But if some of your videos hit, your reward is free affiliate income. And the people I know in this space who are talented are making obscene amounts of money right now. This video does a good job at breaking down the AI workflow to producing said ‘slop’ 👇 I like this particular hustle because you can test affiliate offers quickly; these AI workflows pump out dozens of videos and marketing hooks, so you can discover what resonates with an audience quickly. Subscribe now It’s also 100% organic-friendly. You likely have to invest in buying several TikTok accounts that are eligible for TikTok Shopping. Reframing Luck - How To Earn More Chances At BatIf there’s one takeaway from these high-margin rocket businesses, it’s this: we can engineer luck to get more chances at bat. What do I mean by this? The beauty of these business models is that when they hit, your financial future transforms. And because these businesses have low startup costs and can also be tested quickly, you can brute force more chances at bat to strike it big. I built my first affiliate website in 2017. It was about headphones and speakers, and it was terrible. But my next website was more successful, scaling past $1M in revenue over the next few years before I sold it. In the process of testing 100+ side hustles since college, I’ve seen this dynamic play out time and time again. Both personally and for others I’ve seen find success. But unlike delivering food for DoorDash, certain hustles have insane scaling potential and can genuinely change your life.
